“Local Democracy in the Digital Age: Towards unexploited opportunities and future challenges“ offers a unique opportunity to invite key stakeholders from international, European, and local spheres to share good practices regarding the utilisation of digital tools to foster civic participation. Through this discussion, the event is aimed at analysing the possibilities and obstacles presented by the digital and immersive technologies as platforms for virtual civic engagement and community development at the local level. Moreover, the event will allow for a deeper discussion on relevant strategies on an EU level to address digital divides and ensure inclusive participation in digital democracy, also within the context of the upcoming European Elections 2024. Additionally, it is of utmost importance to also discuss the role of the Artificial Intelligence Act, adopted by the European Parliament, and that marks a huge step towards the regulation of new and ever-evolving technologies. The Event will be held within the framework of the ALDA Festival and General Assembly 2024.
